We’ll feature a handful of local writers with an open mic period, where anyone can sign up to read, sandwiched in between them. And unlike most open mics around, which tend to be geared towards poetry and music, this one will focus on writing in its longer form. So come o…n down and read your latest short story, or maybe read an excerpt from the tell-all memoir you’re working on or that never-ending novel. Heck, you can even come down and read from your diary. Just keep the haikus and limericks — though we appreciate the artistry — at home.

Jones and Roxanne Fay, HOME [Sweet Home] explores how unlikely spaces become refuge out of necessity, memory or determination- a child in a tree, an old woman defending her porch, and the child of a hoarder discover the necessities, and memories that lead them to attach the name HOME to these most unlikely, even dangerous, places.

Viewers will have a chance to vote on the films and a panel of 3 judges will select one film to be featured in the 2011 Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
