[share] Run, Speedo Santa, Run!

December 14, 2010 in Blog

Just wanted to share an article from iLovetheBurg.com

Running a mile in Speedos might have sounded ok a month ago but today it sounds downright crazy. Hopefully the weather will warm up a bit before Saturday’s Santa Speedo Run in neighboring downtown Gulfport.

What began in Boston eleven years ago is now held throughout the US during the month of December as a fundraiser for child related good causes. The Gulfport run will support AIDS Service Association of Pinellas’s (ASAP) Brighter Seasons for Children program, which helps kids affected by HIV/AIDS.

The 1 mile run starts at 4PM this Saturday, December 18th, in Clymer Park in Gulfport and ends at the Recreation Center. Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate. A $20 registration fee is required.Clymer Park is located at the intersection of Beach and Gulfport Boulevards in Gulfport. To register for the run click here.

A friend of the ‘Burg who is running in the Gulfport event is also hosting a FREE screening of Rob William’sMake the Yuletide Gay this Thursday at 8PM at the L-Train Theatre in Downtown St. Pete. Cash donations will be collected for the Santa Speedo Run. The L Train is located at 900 Central Ave. Ste. 25B

Check out this video from the Boston run held last weekend. They make it look real fun and funny!

This is a fundraiser for our very dear friend Karaly Mounce
(Producer/Production Mgr., Bad Fairy Films), who has been deathly ill lately and lost her job because of it. In her early thirties she’s just been released twice from the hospital for Lupus (chemotherapy) and a heart attack and can’t work as she needs to recover. However, because she’s lost her job and can’t work she has no money for her medications. We are hoping to raise enough money to cover her meds for the
next 6 months to a year so that she has time to get well, recover, re-enter employment and continue taking care of her son. We urge you to forgo a couple of Starbucks coffees for the week, catch up with some friends and help save a life.

Can’t make the event but would like to help Karaly? Just click on the “Donate” button below and make your donation. Thank you so very much for saving a life.

9/24-10/17 An Evening With Mr Johnson: It’s Even Harder Being a Gay Dick!

September 24, 2010 in Events

An Evening With Mr Johnson: It’s Even Harder Being a Gay Dick!
is an offshoot of a play about a man and the heterosexual relationship with his penis that causes him to lose his fiancée.  Tampa Bay playwright Michael A. Matteo realized after writing, producing, and directing the play that it could also work very well as an alternative lifestyle play about a gay man and the relationship he has with his penis and how it’s influence can, and does sabotage his relationships.  Infidelity is a universal theme whether a person is gay or straight, and by writing the play for gay and straight people, the playwright is “Hoping to help people realize that no matter what your orientation, people are really not that different when it comes to the voices our genitalia have in terms of how we act in relationsips.”

LTrain Wins in Best of the Bay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best Artful Twist on LGBT Bar Culture
The L Train
The L Train represents an intriguing alternative to the usual bar scene. The eclectic tagline on its website tells you a lot — “Beer. Wine. Theater. WiFi. Billiards.” So does the programming for its intimate movie-theater space, including the local premiere of the powerful documentary film Stonewall Uprising in June and gay theater company Gypsy Productions’ latest play (An Evening with Mr. Johnson: It’s Even Harder Being a Gay Dick!) opening Sept. 24. A lounge-y ambience and a downtown St. Pete location near the Trop — plus an outreach to everybody with a logo that says “LGBTS” — that’s “S” as in straight — add to the appeal. 900 Central Ave., Suite 25B, St. Petersburg, 813-995-5063, theltrain.com
